Acne treatment

Beautiful-Girl-FaceBlemishes, spots, pimples, no matter what name you give to it, acne can be annoyingly persistent and surprisingly distressful. People from all ages can suffer from acne and if it is severe enough, it can cause physiological damage such as emotional distress and physical damage such as scarring. The good news is that effective, and more importantly safe, treatment is available at Wilderman Cosmetic Clinic.

Acne is caused when the pores in your skin become blocked and do not allow natural oils such as sebum to exfoliate. This results is the clogging up of dead skin cells and bacteria which causes the walls of the clogged pores to become damaged.  When this happens ,the bacteria and dead skin cells lay dormant under live skin cells, with no way to escape.  The deeper the clogged pore, the worst the infection will become. This often causes cyst.

Almost 80 percent of acne cases begin during puberty of a boy or girl. This is a direct result of hormones such as testosterone and androgen causing glands to enlarge which results in the over production of sebum. Although the hormonal fluctuations that cause are most common during the teen years, they can also affect adults. Women may experience hormonal swings during their menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and menopause that can result in acne breakouts.

Acne can also be a side effect of certain medications, such as anticonvulsants and steroid drugs. Some people may also have a genetic predisposition to acne. One study found that 50% of adults with acne had a parent, sibling, or child with acne.

Almost anybody who suffers from acne is a candidate for laser acne treatment. Although, you may have to wait up to six months to be treated if you are using any photosensitive drugs. However, your first step should be visiting us at Wilderman Cosmetic Clinic for a free consultation to determine when it is possible for you to receive treatment.

There are numerous different lasers that are designed to treat acne but there are only 2 standardised ways in which they operate.  The first way operates by heating the oil glands in your skin causing them to shrink in size, which results in them producing less oil. The second way operates by creating oxygen within the trapped pores which destroys the bacteria causing inflammation.

The procedure itself is not painful, however it may cause small amounts of discomfort. Here at Wilderman Cosmetic Clinic we apply a cream before each laser treatment to ensure the discomfort one feels is minimal. Immediately after the process the patient will either have no visible reaction, or a mild redness. If the patient has a redder toned skin after the procedure, it will vanish within 2 hours.

Any area on the body, which suffers from acne can be treated and depending how extensive the process is, or how many areas the patient is getting treated, the doctor might choose to numb the areas that he is treating with local anesthetic This will ensure there is no discomfort for the patient. The time it takes for this procedure varies, depending on area size the doctor is treating. Typically, the procedure will last about 30 – 45 minutes, if the patient is only getting a specific part of their face treated. However, the treatment can last up to 2 hours if the patient chooses to have their whole face treated. Typically 3 to 5 sessions a month a part from each other are needed, however this varies based on the severity of the scarring. How many treatments each patient needs will be determined at their initial consultation.

Results can take as long as 6 months after a patient last session As they depend on how a patients skin responds to the treatment and general health.
